Coordinator of Recruitment, California Workforce Programs 

Christian DiRado-Owens joined the Chef Ann Foundation team in July 2024 and serves as Coordinator of Recruitment on the California Workforce Programs team. In this role, he supports recruitment and partnership development for the Healthy School Food Pathway(HFSP) Pre-apprenticeship Program, which seeks to strengthen the school food workforce by providing professional development and work experience opportunities in scratch-cook meal programs.

Christian DiRado-Owens joined the Chef Ann Foundation team in July 2024 and serves as Coordinator of Recruitment on the California Workforce Programs team. In this role, he supports recruitment and partnership development for the Healthy School Food Pathway(HFSP) Pre-apprenticeship Program, which seeks to strengthen the school food workforce by providing professional development and work experience opportunities in scratch-cook meal programs. 

Christian comes to CAF with a background in community food systems, food justice, farm-to-school, public health nutrition research, language revitalization, substitute teaching, and dance. He believes school food service professionals can make a tremendous difference in students’ lives and is interested in work that promotes health, sovereignty, and well-being at the nexus of food, land, community, and culture.

Christian spends his free time thinking about wildlife, traveling long distances by foot/bike/kayak, and eating dessert. His current favorite fruits are Himalayan Purple Mulberries.

American kids start their life-path in K–12 schools where they learn the skills necessary to thrive & meet their potential. While the country debates the best ways to teach them math, science & English, we spend little to no time on food & nutrition.
